MORE than 100 trees were planted at a beauty spot in WGC on Monday.
Featuring a mixture of oak, cherry, hornbeam, poplar and birch, the 115 trees, planted by Welwyn Hatfield Council, now stand in the south car park of Stanborough Park.
Councillor Colin Couch, executive member for environment, said: “I can’t wait to see the new landscape emerge.
“Some of those saplings will potentially grow to be 20 metres tall and live for over 100 years, which is awe inspiring and will shape a striking future landscape for WGC.”
The replanting scheme follows a controversial decision to axe hundreds of old poplars in Stanborough’s two car parks, due to health and safety fears.
Felling of the poplars in the north car park is set to start by the end of this month.
