DRUG and alcohol addicts seeking help can now be treated in Times Territory.

A section of the former ambulance headquarters in Ascots Lane, opposite the QE2 Hospital, has been transformed using 25,300 of Home Office funds.

The Turning Point Hertsreach centre officially opened Thursday and will sit alongside the county’s drug intervention programme, in WGC.

Aid is available to over 18s and includes one-to-one and group counselling, friends and family support groups and complementary therapies, like acupuncture.

Previously, users in the borough had to travel to St Albans or Hertford for treatment.

County councillor Keith Emsall said: “We don’t want drug and alcohol treatment to be a postcode lottery. We want everyone to have easy access to services.

“As well as helping people to beat their drug or alcohol addiction, the centre also offers support service to families and carers of drug misusers, which is vitally important.”
