PARKING problems around the QE2 Hospital could be set to ease as a 250,000 plan to demolish a disused nurse accommodation block began.
Burnham House, which is located near the A&E department, has been empty of staff since July 2008.
Destruction of the building, which is scheduled to take two weeks, began on Monday and will create 60 additional parking spots by mid April.
Nick Carver, East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust chief executive, said: “In demolishing Burnham House, which has been disused for quite some time now, we will be able to increase the number of parking spaces available on the QE2 site, which we know will please our staff, patients and – hopefully – the residents of nearby streets, too.”
The work is part of initial planning permission granted in 2005 for the building of the new Birch Court accommodation block, and includes the erection of fencing.
