CYCLISTS riding through pedestrian areas of a town centre may be slapped with a fixed penalty notice.
Police will be reinforcing the message on three awareness days, running from Wednesday to Friday, that cycling is prohibited in the centre of Hatfield.
Pcso Kate Parker said everyone riding a bike would be stopped and warned, with 30 fixed penalty notices issued to repeat offenders.
She added: “Cycling on the footpath and pedestrian area of the town centre is anti-social and residents have told us it is a real problem, so it has become one of our neighbourhood priorities. We hope these [awareness] days will remind cyclists that the town centre is not a cycle track.”
‘No cycling’ signs have also been put up in the area.
