LIB Dem candidate Anthony Rowlands said he was pleased to cut the gap in votes between his party and Labour in Hertsmere.
In finishing third in the constituency, Mr Rowlands polled 8,210 votes in comparison to Labour rival Sam Russell’s 8,871 votes.
“I am gratified to have closed the gap with the Labour Party,” Mr Rowlands said.
But he added: “Overall nationally it is going to be quite a disappointing night for the Lib Dems.”
