A CAMPAIGN which saw more than 70 speeding motorists stopped by traffic cops has been hailed a success.

Hertfordshire Constabulary this week told the Welwyn Hatfield Times how its neighbourhood policing teams went out in force between April 26 and May 2 to snare speeding drivers and motorcyclists.

As well as pulling over 70 cars and bikes, a further 1,200 vehicles were snapped by static and mobile cameras.

Road policing sergeant Andrew Nayler said: “We tackle speeding throughout the year and it’s an issue that comes top of the list of policing priorities for many residents.

“However, campaigns like this give us a great opportunity to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding and also remind motorists that both road policing officers and neighbourhood teams are on the lookout for anyone putting themselves and other road users at risk.

“It’s simple - the faster you are travelling, the more likely you or other road users are to being seriously injured or killed in a collision.”

Sgt Nayler added: “It’s always worth taking a couple of minutes longer on your journey than speeding and receiving a fine, points on your licence or worse.”
