RESIDENTS can take a walk through the ages as a supermarket is helping brighten up a shopping area during its redevelopment.

With the help of Welwyn Hatfield Council and photos from the Welwyn Hatfield Times and Mill Green Museum archives, Sainsbury’s has installed a piece of modern art.

The work on display along hoardings next to the independent shops on Church Road and Wigmores South maps out WGC’s history through the years.

Welwyn Hatfield Times editor Terry Mitchinson said he was pleased the newspaper could be part of the project.

He said: “It’s an interesting look back at the town over the decades, at a site which will be very much part of its future.”

Town centre manager Nicola Kane added: “The colourful hoardings that now surround part of the Sainsbury’s redevelopment site are a really interesting look through the history of WGC.

“There’s some striking photos of the town from its beginnings in 1920, to the present day.

“Specific thanks to the Welwyn Hatfield Times, Mill Green Museum and Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies.”
