A NEW village shop has opened and its owner hopes to offer a personalised service to her new customers.

The Village Store welcomed its first shoppers on Saturday and is fast becoming the place to be.

Debbie Stammers, who owns the shop in London Road, Woolmer Green, told the WHT: "I've lived in the village all my life and there's nothing here, apart from the garage.

"We sell fresh bread, fresh fruit and veg, milk and newspapers."

The 46-year-old, from Birch Road, said: "We've got a lot of elderly people in the village so we're offering free delivery too."

Debbie added she had always wanted to own a shop and really wanted to make people welcome.

She added: "We've had a lady here for 45 minutes chatting away, we've even made her a cup of tea."

Debbie will also have a stash of the WHTs each Wednesday!
