A 24-year-old man suffered slash wounds after being attacked with a knife in Spencer Way, Stevenage.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with theft from John Lewis in Welwyn Garden City.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with stealing various clothing items from John Lewis in Bridge Road yesterday.

Police were contacted at around 2.30pm and searched the area, arresting the thief a short time later and recovering the stolen clothes.

The boy has been charged with theft from a shop, assaulting a police constable and a section 5 public order offence.

He has been bailed to appear before Central West Herts Youth Court on Wednesday, April 27.
