Police are today appealing for witnesses and information following an alleged sexual assault on a 15-year-old girl that occurred in Welwyn Garden City.

Between 7pm and 9pm, on Wednesday, November 2, a 15-year-old girl and a man were sat at a bench near the fountain, in Parkway, where it is reported that the male exposed himself to the girl and then sexually assaulted her.

A police spokesman said: “They then crossed the road where a further assault is believed to have occurred concealed by some bushes.

“The girl then left the scene and reported the incident to police.

Detective constable Kylie Smith, from the sexual offences investigation team, said: “This was understandably an upsetting incident for the victim.

“We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw the man and the girl together, or who saw or heard anything that could facilitate our investigation.”

A 24-year-old man from Welwyn Garden City has been arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with a child. He has been released on conditional bail while investigations continue.

Anyone with information should contact DC Smith on the Hertfordshire Constabulary non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their website www.crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information cannot be traced or recorded and you will never need to go to court.
