The derailment of an empty and out of service passenger train at Welwyn Garden City will cause delays until at least Sunday.
The derailed train is causing disruption to journeys between Stevenage, London King’s Cross and Moorgate.
One of the four platforms at Welwyn Garden City is out of action and is causing delays of up to 15 minutes.
Trains may also be running with fewer carriages than normal.
This is expected to continue until at least Sunday, September 18.
A spokesperson for Great Northern said: “Network Rail wasn’t able to re-rail the train because the adjacent bank proved too soft for the lifting gear. The engineers are looking at other options.
“Meanwhile, we have delays of around 5 minutes although if there are issues elsewhere then this can build up to around 15 minutes.”
