Tweaks at Potters Bar supermarket car park lights to bust exit queues

Forget leaving the EU, shoppers in Potters Bar are finding it hard enough to get out of Tesco car park.
Commenters on social media have reported traffic queues of anything between 12 minutes on a quiet day, to two hours, when leaving the Tesco Superstore on Mutton Lane.
It has put some people off shopping there.
The problem is being attributed to the traffic lights just outside the car park which are managed by Ringway, working on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council.
People have noticed that when there is congestion nearby, the knock-on effect at that junction is particularly bad.
A Tesco spokesperson expressed regret at the situation, and said that the company has raised its concerns with highway authorities, but Ringway said it has not yet received any public reports on the issue.
Today, Ringway made “a slight adjustment” to the traffic signal timings in the area, according to Ringway’s divisional manager Kevin Carrol.
“We will monitor the traffic flow to see if this has helped,” he added.
Yesterday, Ringway completed cable works at that set of lights ready for the new pedestrian improvements, which are being installed to aid visually impaired users.
Mr Carrol said that Ringway encourages the public to report traffic signal problems online at: www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/highwayfaults.
