Potters Bar businesses are furious because of roadworks that have allegedly been left unattended for days.

Several High Street shopkeepers have voiced their anger over the work, which many claim is hitting their businesses because of knock-on traffic.

Joy Prince, owner of school uniform shop Lee Joy, said it started 10 days ago, but since Friday afternoon the site has been left unattended.

“They came, dug up a hole and left it,” she said. “The traffic is snarled up in both directions, it’s backing up right back down the road. Someone said to me it took them 20 minutes to get through the high street.”

Mas Tabrizi, of menswear shop Tabrizi, said the traffic was having a “dramatic” impact on his store, with many shoppers opting for alternative routes to avoid the “mayhem”.

“The annoying thing is there is no work going on,” he added.

There are currently long delays through the stretch in both directions because of the work.
