Car crashes in the motorways around St Albans and Potters Bar will hold up commuters this morning.

One lane on the M25 anticlockwise between junctions 23 and 24 is closed after multiple vehicles collided.

There are long, standstill queues stretching back to junction 25 which should add 40 minutes onto expected journey times.

Traffic is not expected to clear until at least 9am.

On the M1 southbound between junctions 6A and 6 a car has also smashed into the central barrier.

This is causing delays of about 50 minutes but should be clear by 9.45am.

Both lanes on the M1 entry slip at junction 8 have also just been closed because of an accident.

That is expected to clear by 8.45am.
