Why two years to repair the Hatfield Tunnel?
SIR – Certain things in life puzzle me from time to time. Why does this happen or why does someone do that? etc etc. The most baffling thing on my mind at the moment concerns the Hatfield Tunnel. Your report states work, lasting a total of two years, is

The most baffling thing on my mind at the moment concerns the Hatfield Tunnel.
Your report states work, lasting a total of two years, is to make it compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act.
Forgive me for sounding cynical, but both the disabled and able-bodied will pass through the tunnel in less than 60 seconds (not at the moment of course).
A few wheelchair ramps or lifts to get people to the surface in case of an emergency in the tunnel?
