Tenant or non-tenant?
SIR – In response to the ANONYMOUS letter Make tenants care for their homes (WHT, January 21) I am of the opinion, due to the wording of the letter, that the person who wrote it benefited from the council house sell-off of the Thatcher years.

I am also of the opinion that this person is a SNOB!
How dare they tar every council tenant with the same brush.
I live in a cul-de-sac which has 67 houses, 59 of these were built for sale in the 80s and the vast majority are well maintained. Eight were originally council-owned of which four have been bought under the right-to-buy scheme.
I challenge the writer to visit the close and tell me which is now privately owned and which is still a council property out of the original eight.
The four council owned properties are well looked after, the gardens are of very good order and the residents all contribute to the tidiness of the area.

There are three dog owners out of the eight houses and several more among the newer houses, there is no dog mess to be seen and all owners of these pets are responsible to a fault.
How then can the correspondent identify who is and who is not a tenant? Perhaps for future identification council tenants should be forced to wear some form of badge on their clothing, perhaps something similar to a yellow star?
I think I have made my point and look forward to the anonymous writer's response!
