SIR - Re the letter from Jane Branning (WHT, August 20) regarding the offsite parking of those employed at Shire Park: well before 8am, I have seen Shire Park vehicles already parked bumper to bumper from the railway bridge, Knightsfield, down to the Haldens roundabout.

Yet through passage was not possible on this busy connecting stretch of Knightsfield due to the tail back of vehicles waiting to turn right into the Shire Park site where, presumably, parking spaces were still available. Can they all be managing directors with reserved parking? Jane Branning asks "perhaps someone out there has the answer?" It is likely that inflicting parking restrictions on that stretch of road would simply push even more vehicles into the surrounding residential areas. If there is "anyone out there" then, perhaps whichever local authority ought to be involved, can summon up the enthusiasm, or the courage, to ask why, as evident in passing the two entrances to Shire Park, there is no kerbside parking allowed on site, the road system being adorned with double lines on both sides of the roads, despite the fact that most, if not all vehicles on site are static for each day, Monday to Friday, in their respective car parks.

Could it be anything to do with unacceptable congestion that may be a hazard, causing unnecessary delays to those anxious to enter or leave the sheltered work place that is Shire Park?
