House sparrows are endangered species

SIR – Dr Drew Whitelegg of Atlanta GA USA asks if any one has noticed a decline in house sparrows. I am sorry to have to tell him that they are on the red list of endangered species. No one is sure why, but loss of habitat is one possible reason. On a

No one is sure why, but loss of habitat is one possible reason.
On a more positive note, in last year's RSPB big garden bird watch I saw just four sparrows.
