SIR - I recently saw the sign attached to the fence at Stanborough Park children's playground regarding the regeneration of the Splashlands site yet I see nothing at all about this in the WHT this week. If the council is attempting to consult parents would the local paper not be the ideal way of making sure as many people as possible are aware of the consultation?

The consultation period ends on the May 30 so putting something in the paper next week would limit the time available to complete the form.

Should there not be an option to complete the form online or to download it or type in the information and email it?

There really is a lacklustre feel to the council's approach to the regeneration of the Splashland site. And very little attempt to make sure the residents and users of the park are aware of the process.

Further, from looking at the company's website, to whom we have to forward our forms, do they actually deal with any kind of water play/swimming park?

Their website only seems to include playgrounds and sand play. When the regeneration was first publicised in the WHT some months ago it was suggested that a water splash park such as at Verulam Park in St Albans was being considered. Is this not now an option?

Myself and many others in the area grew up spending our entire summer holidays at what was then Stanborough Swimming Pool, later to become Splashland.

Where are children these days supposed to go in the summer holidays? WGC is a large town and should have its own swimming pool.

Transporting children to Hatfield or Stevenage for swimming lessons is expensive and not particularly environmentally friendly, something we are all trying to be these days.

Editor's note: The consultation has now been extended. See our full story.

Sir - You report the continuing campaign for the development of a swimming pool in the former Shredded Wheat site (WHT May 14).

Despite his somewhat surprising defeat in the recent local elections Lib Dem politician Nigel Quinton has come out fighting to reinstate a swimming pool facility for the residents of Welwyn Hatfield.

This must be proof positive that he has true political conviction for local issues.

Nigel Quinton should be re-elected at the earliest opportunity to serve Welwyn Hatfield and, we hope, a swimming pool rightfully returned to WGC.
