Sir - I would like to take this opportunity to ask residents of Welwyn Hatfield once again to give their generous support to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
The Royal British Legion does such a valuable job protecting the interests, welfare and memory of ex-servicemen and women, their families and dependants. It provides residential and nursing care and support as well as financial help and we are indebted to it.
The Legion is playing an important role in helping the families of our servicemen who have died in Iraq and supporting those who have been injured and traumatised.
When you buy a poppy you also help those who continue to serve in places like The Falklands, Kosovo, the Middle East and Afghanistan.
As mayor of the council it
will be my privilege to
attend this
year's Remembrance Day services on Sunday 9 November and pay my respects on behalf of the local community.
The Royal British Legion relies on our help. Please give what you can.
Councillor Michael Long, Mayor, Welwyn Hatfield Council.
