SIR - May I via your letters page thank Susan Jones for her letter in last week's WHT. It is very reassuring to see that one of our local councillors has a grasp of the fact that Burrowfield is rapidly becoming overdeveloped with the wrong type of facilities, a view also held by Grant Shapps who has also given his support .
The problem is exacerbated by the fact that HCC and WHBC both seem to have jurisdiction over different types of planning and are quite happy to disregard the wishes of each other to the detriment of residents and business.
There seems to be no strategic long- term plan apart from just allowing as many companies in as possible; how they manage is then up to them.
Ten years ago there was a letter from the WHDC to residents of Burrowfield outlining the idea that a relief road could be built to join Burrowfield to Chequersfield. We were told it would depend on funding from the developing the Mater Dei site. The site has been developed. Where is the road?
It was also very reassuring to read Mr Dicks is in agreement with these ideas.
It is however worrying that he does not know where the figures quoted by Simon Wesson came from.

In defence of Mr Wesson, the HCC planning control meeting on May 13, had an application from The Honeywagon Co. to increase HGV traffic movements from 20 per day to 80 per day, that by anyone's maths is an increase of 60!
The application for a waste transfer site at the top of Burrowfield asked for 94 movements per day, this from an empty site, therefore, must be an increase of 94; 60 plus 94 equals 154, the figure that Susan Jones mentioned.
The figures are not made up, they are the applicant's own.
HCC thinks that 154 HGV vehicle movements per day is not a significant increase, this from an organisation that has no idea how many vehicles use Burrowfield each day in the first place.
Is this good planning? We think not.
Robin Kersey, Chequers, WGC.
