The names have been announced for who is switching on this year's Christmas lights in Hatfield.

The Hatfield event will take place in the town centre on Saturday, November 19 from 1pm to 5pm.

Harry Potter character lookalikes will be turning the lights on in Hatfield along with Father Christmas and one lucky winner from the Dear Santa competition.

This competition is open until Monday, November 14, so there’s still a chance it could be you!

A fun-packed afternoon of activities will commence at 1pm, spread across the town centre in White Lion Square, The Arcade and Market Place.

There will be lots of festive-themed entertainment for the whole family, including the chance to meet Santa and his reindeer, a photo booth, funfair rides, face painting and lots more.

Plenty of prizes will also be up for grabs, with the chance to win £100 for selecting the best dressed Christmas window from shops in the town.

Collect your Harry Potter activity book from the information stall at the event or from The Hub afterwards for more information about this and the other magical prizes on offer.

There will also be a second winner drawn from the Dear Santa entries, winning a free birthday party courtesy of Finesse Leisure.

The deadline for this prize is December 16.

Two days before the Hatfield lights event, it’s the turn of Welwyn Garden City with the town centre’s illuminations being switched on in Howardsgate on Thursday, November 17.

Councillor Bernard Sarson, executive member for business, partnerships and public health, said: “Both events promise to be fantastic community occasions that will kick-start Welwyn Hatfield’s Christmas celebrations, helping to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

“I hope to see as many people as possible, enjoying the food, fun and festive atmosphere.”
