A planning appeal has been launched after plans for a one-bedroom home in Welwyn were refused.

The plans for a new one-bedroom house with refuse storage, an associated double garage to include parking and cycle storage, and creation of a vehicular access on the corner of Foxglove Way and The Brambles was refused by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council last December.

"The restricted size of the application site would represent a physical constraint to the proposed development," the council stated.

"The proposed dwelling and separate garage, by reason of their scale in relation to the constrained plots, their layout, their use and their prominent position in the street scene, would result in a contrived form of development that would overdevelop the application site.

"The application does not provide the Highways Authority with sufficient information to conclude if landscaping along the front boundary would negatively affect the safe operation of the highway locally. The proposal would have an unacceptable impact on highway safety."

Despite the rejection and a number of objections by nearby residents, the applicant has appealed the decision in the hope that it will be pushed through.
