Members of Welwyn Garden City's Men's Shed Project have been repairing the town's damaged street signs.
The cast iron street signs feature raised lettering in an elegant 'Arts and Crafts'-influenced font, however many of the original signs have been replaced with generic alternatives made of plastic or composite materials.
The Men's Shed - which helps tackle loneliness and isolation - aims to restore the signs to their former glory.
Peter Lowe, from the Men's Shed Project, said: "Volunteers repair and repaint damaged road name signs, and where necessary, reshape chipped corners with Epoxy putty donated by Toolbank in Hatfield.
"Restored for posterity, this gives back to our community twofold. Firstly, through purposeful work and donation of time for those repairing the signs.

"Secondly, the preservation of an environmental detail that has been a constant part of residents' everyday lives for almost a century, walking past them every morning and being welcomed home by them every night.
"These road signs can conjure up all sorts of memories for communities."
Cllr Michal Siewniak added: "Peter Lowe is a true Welwyn Hatfield 'community ambassador'.
"If anyone is looking for an impactful project, there is one, in Welwyn Garden City, literally on our doorstep!"
