From a Hatfield mum losing 18 stone to celebrating the reopening of a local businesses, it was a busy January in Welwyn Hatfield.
1. Hatfield mum 'proud and happy' after 18-stone weight loss journey
A Hatfield mum celebrated the New Year for a different reason to most, after losing 18 stone through Slimming World.
Ceri Knight joined the group after being told she would not see her daughter grow up due health risk associated with her weight.
She had an emotional start to the year, as she arrived with her daughter to receive her 18 stone award that recognised her achievements.
2. Appeal launched as dog dumped at Potters Bar's RSPCA centre
An appeal for information was launched after a dog was dumped at the RSPCA's Potters Bar Animal Centre.
The boxer type dog - nicknamed Teddy by the charity's rescuers - was found tied to a gate on New Year's Eve.
He had several lumps and swellings, including a large one on his side which had ulcerated and needed to be removed by vets.
3. 25-year-old family butchers re-opens its doors in Hatfield
A Hatfield family butchers known for its “friendly and knowledgeable service” re-opened its doors to the public in January.
Bob’s Family Butchers has been serving Hatfield for over 25 years, while the current owner, Mark Burley, has been associated with the shop for over 20 years.
Mark said: "We are really excited to have moved into our new shop which is bigger and brighter than our previous premises."
4. Free Whoppers at Welwyn Garden City Burger King opening
As Welwyn Garden City's Burger King opened its doors, 1,000 of their iconic Whoppers were given away.
Alasdair Murdoch, CEO of Burger King UK said: "We know the people of Welwyn Garden City love the great-tasting food of Burger King, so we’ve listened to their requests and are very excited to bring all their favourites to their neighbourhood.
"Our home – of the Whopper – is their home."
5. Welwyn Garden City vet bill fundraiser scammed out of £1,200
A fundraising campaign for a dog's vet bills was scammed out of £1,200 by an imitation funding page.
Pictures and copied stories of Molly, a dog from Welwyn Garden City, were shared on a GoFundMe page by a Hemel Hempstead man, only with the dog's name changed to Daisy.
A brutal attack had left Molly in need of expensive vet treatments, for which a GoFundMe page was started.
