Hatfield Park has announced a new Christmas experience for the festive season.
Step into a world of wonder and history this holiday season as Hatfield Park proudly presents the most enchanting and regal event of the year – 'Fantastical Christmas Revels hosted by Queen Elizabeth I'.
The Hertfordshire stately home has worked closely with CLW Event Design, a collective of theatrical practitioners, designers and artists, to bring to life a unique visitor experience influenced by the rich Tudor history and heritage of Hatfield Park.
The outdoor event will run from Thursday, November 30 to Sunday, December 31, 2023, closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Visitors will experience the captivating allure of Queen Elizabeth I's reign as you journey though meticulously crafted installations that pay homage to the Tudor period.
This exclusive Christmas event is designed to enchant, educate, and transport you to an age of regality and wonder.
Highlights include the Carriage of Elegance, in which you can admire a life-sized Tudor carriage adorned with intricate details, reflecting the opulence of Queen Elizabeth I's courtly travels.
You will also encounter the merry Mummers, captured in the moment as they perform their traditional festive plays, a cherished Tudor pastime that will entertain and delight.
Talented musicians will also fill the air with the melodies of the era, while a sumptuous banquet table laden with lavish decorations, reminiscent of the extravagant feasts enjoyed by royalty, can also be admired.
And don't miss the iconic Christmas Kissing Bough, adorned with holly, ivy, and mistletoe, symbols of Tudor Christmas celebrations.
The climax of the journey leads to the moment where you'll come face-to-face with none other than Queen Elizabeth I herself, extending her royal welcome to one and all.
The young Princess Elizabeth, one of Henry VIII's daughters, grew up on the Hatfield Park estate with her siblings, and it was in the grounds that she heard she had become Queen in 1558.
All that remains of Elizabeth I's childhood home is The Old Palace, with the Hatfield House you see today finished in 1611.
