Potters Bar & District Photographic Society returns to regular meetings later this month.

Ahead of activities resuming at the Wyllyotts Centre, Society member Yve Paige explains how she got involved in photography and showcases some of her pictures in an in-depth focus on her work.

Yve said: "My first set of photos are from a task I set myself when I retired. I decided to start walking the Thames Path and kicked off at Greenwich down through the tunnel under the river and onwards.

"On my journey over the last year or so I have found places I didn’t know existed even though I’ve lived in London all my life. I have recorded my walks with photos and here are a few of the better ones I have taken on the way.

"I am currently up to Barnes Bridge and I hope to keep going as far as Hampton. I have found this has been interesting  and I have stopped off at many a pub on the way and it is good exercise too."

"My next set of photos is a mixture of animals and grandchildren.

"The pig is at College Farm in Finchley. I was asked to go along and take some photos for their new website as they have put their animal feed and tack shop online now.

"My grandchildren are my world and what nan doesn’t take photos of them?"

Yve added: "I also go off on outings to Richmond Park in the rutting season, Paradise Wildlife Park, and the odd country walk.

"I am a keen photographer and have taken photos since I was a teenager starting out with 110 pocket camera... remember them?

"But I didn’t start taking myself seriously until I started going to live music gigs and I was getting frustrated with my photos being blurred, too dark and after looking around me I saw I needed another camera from my pocket Canon I had at the time.

"I went out and got a decent Canon camera and I now have bands and musicians using my photos for their Instagram pages or websites."

However, Yve admits she's "still still learning and not at all technical".

"I just love having a camera in my hand," Yve said.

"I have found Potters Bar Photographic Society such a great place to go. I have learnt so much by just watching and listening to judges’ comments  and to lecturers over the last four years. Oh and the people are lovely too!"

The Society is currently taking a summer break from its regular meetings but restarts at Wyllyotts Centre, off Darkes Lane, Potters Bar, at 7.15pm on September 18.

Further information is available at the Society’s website pottersbarphotosoc.org.uk or on Facebook.
