Actor Samuel James, who stars as Garth Stubbs in ITV sitcom Birds of a Feather, guest taught at The Pauline Quirke Academy Welwyn Garden City at Sir Frederic Osborn School.

Over 70 children, accompanied by family and friends, turned up to the free open day at the school in Herns Lane on Saturday, February 24.

The children were split into age groups and got to sample classes in PQA’s core modules – musical theatre, film and television, and their usual comedy and drama lesson, which was guest taught by Samuel James.

Parents, meanwhile, had the opportunity to take a peek at their children in action during classes.

Louise Close, principal of PQA Welwyn Garden City, said: “I am delighted to provide young people in the area with such a unique performing arts experience.

“We teach a comprehensive range of skills, which are useful for everyday life, not just a career in the performing arts.

“I am so excited to see what the future brings and want to thank everyone for their support.”

PQA is a weekend performing arts academy providing tuition for children and young people aged from four to 18 years.

It was started by Birds of a Feather actress Pauline Quirke and her producer husband Steve Sheen in 2007, with an academy in their local town of Beaconsfield.

Students spend three hours rotating through hour-long sessions in comedy and drama, musical theatre, and film and television.

They are split into groups according to their age and are taught by specialist teachers.

PQA Welwyn Garden City is enrolling now with spaces still available.

Classes run on Saturdays from 9.45am to 1pm.
