THERE’S a screening of cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show in Welwyn Garden City this weekend – with audience members being encouraged to participate at the Hawthorne Theatre.
IT’S just a jump to the left. And then a step to the right...
Yes, it’s time to dust off your fishnets and five-inch heels and head over to Campus West in WGC this weekend with other creatures of the night for a riotous film showing.
For on Saturday, the good people at the Hawthorne Theatre would like, if they may, to take you on a strange journey…
If you recognise the above references, you’ll know straight away that the movie we’re talking about is The Rocky Horror Picture Show (12A).
Filmed in 1975, yet completely timeless, the musical features iconic performances from Richard O’Brien, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Meatloaf and, of course, Tim Curry.
With more quotable lines than there are holes in a fishnet tight, it is perfectly understandable why this film is a midnight classic the world over.
And then there’s the music. Hot Patootie – Bless My Soul!, the pelvic-thrusting The Time Warp, Sweet Transvestite, I Can Make You A Man and more will have you jiving in your seats.
Which is not to say you have to stay calm throughout.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show has picked up a devoted following who interact with the film throughout and the Hawthorne Theatre has said – against the advice of other theatres – they are not going to search people going in or confiscate items.
So rice, confetti, toast, toilet rolls, rubber gloves, playing cards and Kit Kats – all the paraphernalia of a good Rocky Horror experience – are allowed.
There’ll also be a prize for the audience member with the best Rocky Horror costume, so there’s no excuse for guys not to wear their fishnets and basques!
So remember, if you want to know Whatever Happened To Saturday Night, get your tickets now.
It’s astounding, time is fleeting – but this is one night in WGC you can’t afford to miss if you are a Rocky Horror fan.
The film starts at 8pm and tickets cost £5.
