ORGANISERS are urging metal fans to get their 2011 Sonisphere Festival tickets for Knebworth early to avoid disappointment.
The three-day hard rock event returns to the grounds of Knebworth House next summer from Friday, July 8 to Sunday, July 10, with thrash metal’s Big Four, Biffy Clyro and Slipknot headlining.
Weekend camping passes went on sale earlier this month, but organisers can’t say for certain whether day tickets will be available closer to the event – like they have been for past two years at Knebworth.
Sonisphere sold out on the Sunday this year for the first time, with more than 55,000 metalheads in the Lytton Cobbold family’s back garden for Iron Maiden’s closing set.
There were also 50,000 plus in the arena the night before for Rammstein’s UK festival debut.
Speaking to the Welwyn Hatfield Times during this year’s festival, Sonisphere supremo Stuart Galbraith said he was keen for as many people to be at Knebworth for the whole weekend, from Thursday night right through to Sunday.
And a statement from Team Sonisphere said: “Given that 2010’s event had sold out before Iron Maiden took to the stage, and the hugely exciting headliners set for next year, Sonisphere cannot guarantee that day tickets will be available for 2011, so fans are advised to get their tickets early to ensure they don’t miss out on what is already shaping up to be Sonisphere’s most exciting year yet.”
Thrash metal’s Big 4 of Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth will appear together on stage in the UK for the first time ever on the opening Friday night, July 8.
Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro will step up to headline a British festival for the first time the following night.
American metallers Slipknot close things on the Sunday with an exclusive UK performance – the band’s first in this country since the death of founding member and bass player Paul Gray.

* The first European dates of the world’s largest touring festival have also been confirmed.
Sonisphere will stop off in Warsaw, Poland, on June 10, 2011, Switzerland on June 24 and Italy on June 25-26.
The touring metal beast will visit Amneville in France on July 8-9 – the same weekend as the UK leg in Knebworth – and Spain on July 16.
Dates for Sonispheres in Sweden, Finland, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic are still to be announced.
