Organisers of the three-day rock event taking place in July have confirmed a dozen more groups for the Knebworth leg of the touring festival, including The Mars Volta’s only UK show of 2011.

The Grammy Award winners from El Paso, Texas, will bring their unique blend of Latin-American infused psychedelic prog rock to the Hertfordshire stately home on Saturday, July 9 as Saturn second stage headliners before Biffy Clyro play the Apollo stage.

Another band making their UK Sonisphere debut this summer is Sweden’s progressive death metal band Opeth.

Killing Joke, meanwhile, will return to Knebworth having performed at the inaugural Sonisphere in 2009.

This time the original line-up of Jaz Coleman, Geordie, Youth and Paul Ferguson will take to the Bohemia stage after the grand finale of The Big Four show on the Friday night.

London metalcore outfit Rise to Remain – fronted by Austin Dickinson, the son of Iron Maiden singer Bruce – are another band returning to Knebworth after winning the Kerrang! Award for Best British Newcomer in 2010.

Also playing Sonisphere’s Sunday line-up in the Bohemia tent are hirsute Massachusetts quintet Four Year Strong.

Added to Friday’s line-up are Michigan’s melodic death metallers The Black Dahlia Murder.

Others added to the bill include Miami metallers Black Tide, controversial Swedish black metallers Watain, Greek power-metallers Firewind, Scottish pirate-metallers Alestorm, Cambridge rockers The Treatment and Six Hour Sundown, who are fronted by Lauren Harris.

* Sonisphere organisers have also confirmed Knebworth tickets are selling faster than last year.
