Indie-pop favourites Scouting for Girls are playing at the Forum in Hatfield tomorrow (Saturday). Chief reporter Kelly-Ann Kiernan interviewed the band before the gig.

“IT’S a beautiful day, but I’m stuck inside. Staring at this screen, working nine to five.

“How I hate this job, coz the days do drag. They work me like a dog, and the money’s bad...”

OK... the money is bad but I don’t hate my job as I got to interview indie-pop favourites Scouting for Girls this week.

The trio, famed for feelgood favourite She’s So Lovely, were preparing for their gig in Hatfield on Saturday.

Roy Stride, Greg Churchouse and Peter Ellard will take to the stage and promise to bring a mix of their first album – likely to include hit singles It’s Not About You, Elvis Ain’t Dead and Heartbeat – and a sneak preview of tracks from their forthcoming album Everybody Wants To Be On TV.

The critical second album has been a labour of love for the boys.

With 20 songs in the bag, they sat down to decide which to include on the final list.

Bassist Greg explained: “We were going through 20 songs and we were trying to be honest, they were good but they weren’t perfect.

“We wanted the best and the strongest we can, they were good but they weren’t good enough.”

So the trio decided to scrap all their hard work and start over, Roy bringing the lyrics and melody, with Greg on bass guitar and Peter on drums providing their expertise too.

Greg said the album promises to be a step forward.

He said: “It’s similar to before, we are keeping it moving forward, but we want to keep the fans with us.”

The album is not due out until Monday, April 12 but the first single This Ain’t A Love Song is due to be released on Monday, March 29.

“The new single is quite possibly my favourite track,” Greg boasted.

“It gives me this good feeling and I hate to use the word beautiful, but I’m gonna.

“This one really stands out.”

I for one really hope we get to hear the single at the gig on Saturday so we can judge for ourselves.

Anyone still looking to get tickets for the gig at the Forum, on the University of Hertfordshire’s College Lane campus should hurry.

Doors open at 7pm, although a ticketed event, it is open to the public not just students.
