Scouting for Girls at the 2009 BRIT Awards

SCOUTING for Girls were up for three BRIT Awards last year.

* They were shortlisted for 2009 British Breakthrough Artist against Adele, Duffy, The Last Shadow Puppets and The Ting Tings.

The award, voted for by BBC Radio 1 listeners, went to Welsh singer Duffy.

* The trio were also up for Best British Live act against Coldplay, Elbow, Iron Maiden and The Verve. British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden were presented with the BRIT.

* Scouting for Girls track Heartbeat was also in the top five for Best British Single, eventually losing out to Girls Aloud with The Promise.

The London-based trio, known for their toe-tapping keyboard-led tunes and infectious melodies, will play the University of Hertfordshire’s £38m entertainment complex, the Forum, on Saturday, February 6.

Famous for top 10 chart smashes She’s So Lovely and Elvis Ain’t Dead, Scouting for Girls were formed five years ago.

And the three-piece – singer and keyboardist Roy Stride, bass player Greg Churchouse and drummer Peter Ellard – are set to release their second album in the spring.

The follow-up to their self-titled chart-topping debut, Everybody Wants To Be On TV will be released through Epic Records on March 22.

It will be preceded by catchy new single This Ain’t A Love Song on March 7.

Roy Stride wrote on the band’s website: “We had the album written, but decided it just wasn’t good enough so we trashed it and started over again.

“I just wanted to write the perfect pop song. We are perfectionists!”

The album was recorded at Helioscentric Studios with producer Andy Green, who also twiddled the knobs on the band’s triple-platinum debut Scouting for Girls.

Last year saw the group nominated for three BRIT Awards – for Best British Breakthrough Act, Best British Live Act and Best British Single for Heartbeat.

However, they lost out on all three, with the best live act gong going to metal legends Iron Maiden, who are headlining this year’s Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth House.

Standing tickets for Scouting for Girls’ February Forum date cost £17.50 are on sale now.

They are available from Seetickets on the link above.
