Rashida Mangera’s photo is part of a new exhibition at The New Maynard Gallery at Campus West, in WGC.

Dr Mangera and her husband, Dr Hady Bayoumi, are both keen photographers and share this presentation of their work.

Rashida said: “Hady and I have organised the display based on a common theme, which is mainly about people giving their time to help others.

“We have arranged the photos in subject groups, with the Hyde Park concert photos being in one group.

“And Hady’s striking photo of the fun runners at a Sport Relief event is in another group.”

Hady said: “The exhibition is called Our View on making a difference.

“The title reflects our professional background and interest as doctors in those who care for others.”

He added: “Rashida grew up in South Africa. In Johannesburg, a group of photographers are taking part in an international project called Help-Portrait. We have been involved over the last two years.

“The project is all about giving photos, not taking them. Portraits are given to people from disadvantaged backgrounds; it’s a small gesture, but many of the people don’t have a photo of themselves.

“It’s something we take for granted. Rashida has included a section in the exhibition about the project, and the amazingly joyful reaction of the recipients on getting their portraits.”

The New Maynard Gallery is located in the Hawthorne Theatre foyer, and the exhibition opened today (Tuesday) and runs through to Saturday, May 5.
