The Sonisphere Festival 2014 day splits for next summer’s rock and metal spectacular at Knebworth Park have been confirmed.

The Prodigy were announced for the three-day Hertfordshire music festival yesterday (Wednesday).

The Essex dance/rock giants will get the Knebworth party started on the opening night – Friday, July 4.

Fellow headliners Iron Maiden and Metallica will appear over the following two days.

The two legendary metal bands have never appeared together on the same UK bill, and they will be playing no other dates in this country in 2014.

KiliLive promoter Alan Day tweeted: “Three of my fave live bands ever on one bill ! Go team @Sonisphere”

Iron Maiden will bring their highly-acclaimed Maiden England World Tour to a finale at Knebworth on Saturday, July 5.

The British heavy metal favourites will perform a set list reaching even further back into their 80s catalogue than before.

Meanwhile, thrash metal titans Metallica will bring the fourth UK Sonisphere Festival to a close on Sunday, July 6.

James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo will be performing their interactive ‘By Request’ set, with ticket holders able to vote online for any tracks from the American band’s 140-song catalogue.

The 17 most popular choices will then be performed on the night, plus a new track selected by the band.

Early bird weekend tickets for Sonisphere 2014 are on sale now priced £170.

They are available from the Sonisphere Festival website.

Day tickets for Knebworth have not gone on sale yet.
