Codicote music festival Goatfest kicks off today with three days of fun and entertainment on the bill.
The Hertfordshire music festival will celebrate its 10th year with a headline performance from hip hop royalty.
This year’s marquee name is Grandmaster Flash, who will be making the trip from The Bronx, New York, to appear on the main stage on Sunday, August 26.
The legendary American recording artist and DJ is one of the pioneers of hip hop, with Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five song The Message hitting the UK top 10 back in 1982.
As well as Grandmaster Flash, 70 acts will appear over the three days across the festival site’s various stages.
Among those playing the Codicote weekender will be chart-topping Spirit in the Sky stars Doctor and the Medics, The Showhawk Duo, The Wholls, Caleb Hawley and Live/Wire’s AC/DC Show.
Headlining in the DJ Arena are Ibiza legends DJ Alex P and Brandon Block.
Originally held at The Goat Inn, in Codicote High Street, the festival now occupies a large field site off Bury Lane.
While the festival might have moved half a mile down the road, it’s gone a long way from the days of it being held in a pub garden on the back of a lorry trailer.
Organiser Rowan Patel said: “I can’t believe it’s been 10 years of Goatfest.
“It’s been a crazy but amazing journey and I’ve got to give a huge shout out to everyone that’s been coming over the years.
“The support has been unbelievable.
“I can’t wait for you all to see what we’ve got in store for you at this year’s event.
“It’s set to be one hell of a show, with some really stellar performances.”
Rowan added: “As ever we will be supporting the Isabel Hospice and Willow.
“Other features are our amazing street food, stalls, camping options and brand new VIP area.”
Organisers have confirmed the set times for this weekend’s big music festival.
The main stage music kicks off at 6pm this evening, with Live/Wire’s AC/DC show due on stage at 10pm following performances by Uptown Funk and Wild Front.
The Codicote Community Choir is due to open the main stage on Saturday at 12.15pm, with Indi & The Vegas on at 2.40pm, followed by The Wholls at 3.35pm.
