SCOTTISH rockers Big Country have announced a tour date for Hatfield later this year.
Best known for classic 198 debut album The Crossing, the group will appear at the Forum Hertfordshire on Friday, June 22.
The College Lane gig forms part of the just announced three-date Crossing The Solent Tour.
A day after the University of Hertfordshire show the band literally cross the Solent to play the Isle of Wight Festival 2012 on Saturday, June 23.
Big Country formed in November 1981 and recently celebrated their 30th anniversary by performing international best-seller The Crossing live in its entirety.
Featuring their distinctive bagpipe-like guitar sound, The Crossing sold more than a million copies worldwide, spawning three top 20 UK hits – the anthemic Fields of Fire (400 Miles), In A Big Country and Chance.
Other singles include top 10 smashes Wonderland and Look Away, while Steeltown, the 1984 follow-up to The Crossing, reached number one in the charts, backed by singles East of Eden, Where The Rose Is Sown and Just A Shadow.
Following the death of lead singer Stuart Adamson in 2001, Mike Peters from The Alarm now performs frontman duties, alongside original group members Tony Butler on bass, drummer Mark Brzezicki and guitarist Bruce Watson. Fellow guitarist Jamie Watson completes the current line-up.
Support for Big Country’s pre-Isle of Wight Festival shows in Leicester, Oxford and Hatfield comes from The Hotheads
