Full steam ahead for Knebworth Steam, Crafts & Country Life Fair this weekend
Organisers are expecting thousands of people to flock to Knebworth Park over the weekend for an annual steam and country fair.
Oakleigh Fairs will return to the Hertfordshire stately home on Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 13 for the Knebworth Steam, Crafts & Country Life Fair.
The fair will feature steam engines, Jez Avery’s stunt bikes, re-enactments from the History Revisited on horseback First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (F.A.N.Y.) display team, birds of prey displays, Mario Magic children’s entertainer, and terrier racing.
Added to this is a goat show including bottle feeding lambs and kids, children’s petting pens, historical re-enactment and demonstrations of rural skills, art displays and food stalls.
A spokesman from Oakleigh said: “We are delighted to be returning to Knebworth for our fair, now in its eighth year.
“We have invited a whole host of steam engines, both scale and full size, to add to our regular entertainment, in a celebration of country life at its best as well as much more besides.
“It’s a fantastic setting and we really enjoy working with the team there.
“Our events are designed with the whole family in mind – we want to deliver a really good weekend that everyone can enjoy, young and old, and we are bringing some fantastic new entertainment to the show this year.”
Perhaps the greatest invention of the Industrial Revolution, there is something magical about steam engines.
The fair will feature 11 full size steam engines and 19 scale models, which will be brought into the arena for a parade accompanied by a commentary explaining more about the machines.
Jez Avery’s Stunt Bikes and Buggies will keep the whole family on the edge of their seats as he performs his nail-biting show full of stunts and tricks.
Throughout the death-defying show Jez will be providing his entertaining commentary on his own stunts.
If you are looking for something safer, but equally exciting, there will be plenty of crafts, including besom broom making, spinning and weaving, basket making and thatching.
In addition to this, an array of unique art, craft and gift products that aren’t available on the high street will be on sale in the marquees and from the outside trade stands.
On Sunday there will be The Companion Dog Show, which includes a ‘Waggiest Tail’ category.
So bring along a canine friend and have a go.
Entries begin at noon and the cost is £1 per category, with all proceeds going to Marie Curie.
The judging will start at 1pm and the top three places will be awarded with coveted rosettes.
Alternatively you can relax with a drink from the licensed bar and enjoy some music by the Plonkers Agricultural Band.
The show is open from 10am to 5pm on both days.
Admission is £9.50, family tickets (for four people) £34.
