A festival of folk’s finest acts gathered together in beautiful leafy parkland for one uplifting summer’s day of music will take place in Hatfield next month.

Folk by the Oak returns to Hatfield House on Sunday, July 16.

It will be the 10th festival of all things folk and acoustic in the grounds of the Hertfordshire stately home.

As the UK’s largest one-day folk festival it promises all the open-air buzz of a three-day event packed into one joyous day of music, fun and bunting.

The Folk by the Oak team strive to bring together a truly memorable “line-up of headliners” each year.

And 2017 is no different with another sensational bill for FBTO’s 10th festival.

Folk festival favourites Kate Rusby and Show of Hands both return to Hatfield, having previously headlined the annual music festival.

American-born acoustic blues legend Eric Bibb will also entertain visitors, while indie-folk phenomenon This is the Kit and ex-Bellowhead fiddle player Sam Sweeney with his new trio Leveret will also appear on the main stage.

The music culminates with Folk by the Oak’s trademark firework finale, which this year will accompany folk/punk band Levellers performing their classic second album Levelling the Land live.

“Folk by the Oak is a festival for all the family to enjoy,” said creative director Caroline Slough to the Welwyn Hatfield Times.

“As well as programming a day of back-to-back sublime music across the two stages, we have lovingly gathered together many magical, unique and imaginative activities for children to enjoy, either in our dedicated family area or dotted around the festival site.”

Caroline added: “You can even bring your own picnic.

“As parents ourselves we understand that feeding kids without spending a fortune at a festival often means a trip back to the tent and missing out on the action, so we actively encourage you to bring your own homemade food into the arena and enjoy your picnic wherever you please.

“Should supplies run low there’s a carefully selected and plentiful array of tasty food stalls available, too.”

Folk by the Oak promoters are also proud to have been working with Welwyn Hatfield-based charity Willow since the festival began in 2008.

A donation from every ticket sold is donated to the charity, which is the only national charity working with seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40 to fulfil uplifting and unforgettable Special Days.

Willow’s presence at Folk by the Oak has so far generated over £53,000 through ticket contributions, the generosity of the crowd on the day and further donations.
