Despite the wet weather, clocks go forward an hour next month as 2014 British Summer Time starts in the UK.

When the clocks change

* In spring, the clocks go forward, losing an hour – at 1am GMT the UK moves to 2am BST.

* In autumn, the clocks fall back, giving an extra hour – at 2am BST the UK moves to 1am GMT.

So when exactly do the clocks change this year?

British Summer Time (BST) traditionally starts on the last Sunday in March and ends on the final Sunday in October.

So clocks will spring forward an hour at 1am on Sunday, March 30, 2014, when BST starts and the country moves out of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

This means losing an hour of sleep in the morning.

As a result of the change, there will be more daylight in the evenings and less in the mornings.

Clocks will go back an hour on Sunday, October 26 when BST ends and the country reverts to GMT.

And when do the clocks go forward and back in 2015?

The daylight saving time dates for next year are March 29 and October 25.
