Cinderella by Vienna Festival Ballet

FEATURING music from some of Rossini’s most famous operas, the Vienna Festival Ballet’s new production of Cinderella promises to be a sumptuous affair.

The classic rags-to-riches fairytale is coming to the Alban Arena in St Albans tomorrow (Saturday), with a matinee perform-ance at 2.30pm.

A mistreated young girl, a glass slipper, two comical ugly step-sisters and a handsome prince combine to make the perfect piece of story-telling, especially when combined with a commissioned score taken from some of great Italian composer Rossini’s most famous operatic achievements.

Artistic director Peter Mallek chose Chris Nicolls, a renowned conductor and musical director for ballet, to rearrange and rewrite the score for the ballet.

The music was then recorded especially for the company by the leading orchestra in Kosice, Slowakia, conducted by Nicolls himself.

Audiences will recognise some of Rossini’s most famous operas within the ballet, La Cenerentola, the Italian Girl in Algiers and Silken Ladder all add to the magical fantasy world of the ballet Cinderella.

Tickets cost £22, £17 concessions and £13.50 under 16s.
