UHArts is showcasing an exhibition dedicated to the artworks from the University of Hertfordshire Art Collection.

Inside the Art Collection is the first full-length visual arts exhibition at the Art & Design Gallery that concentrates entirely on the university’s own collection.

Featuring a variety of approaches to art-making, many of the works will be on show for the first time since their acquisition.

Comprising over 500 artworks, the University of Hertfordshire Art Collection is a wonderfully eclectic collection – featuring 13 impressive external sculptures and a portfolio of paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, ceramics and mixed-media works.

It is dispersed in publicly accessible sites across the College Lane and de Havilland Campuses in Hatfield, as well as Bio Park and Fielder Centre.

It seeks to enhance the university environment by introducing modern and contemporary art in places where people study, work and visit.

“This is a great opportunity to see and respond to a number of works that are currently in store and enjoy different combinations of artworks side-by-side for the first time,” said Annabel Lucas, head of UHArts.

The exhibition can be seen at the Art & Design Gallery on College Lane Campus until November 24.

To enhance the exhibition, UHArts is hosting an interpretation workshop, inviting students, staff and visitors to consider how we write about art and question how language shapes our encounter with art.

There will also be an engagement wall offering an opportunity to reflect on the artworks and give feedback.

Visitors are invited to write their comments, creating a wall of multiple responses and viewpoints.

Inside the Art Collection is part of UHArts’ autumn/winter 2018 season events.

Throughout the year, UHArts delivers cutting-edge visual arts, design, music, film and live arts events, bringing innovative and thought-provoking offer to the local community.

UHArts also hosts monthly guided sculpture walks, introducing some of the outdoor sculptures located on College Lane Campus.
