An annual arts festival will be launched with an exclusive showcase charity preview at Hertford Castle next month.
The fourth Hertford Arts Festival will launch at Hertford Castle with an evening art exhibition on Friday, April 7, from 6pm to 8pm.
Twenty-eight talented artists will each exhibit one piece of artwork that will be featured in the Hertford Art Trail, which runs from Saturday, April 8 to Sunday, May 7.
The art exhibition launch will be held in the historic castle’s Downshire Suite, and will offer the public an evening of art, culture and wine.
The evening event will be hosted by the mayor of Hertford, Linda Radford, and visitors will be able to meet the artists in person to find out more about the inspiration behind their work.
A cinema room will also be set up and will screen a preview of the artists’ work on a rotating reel.
Each of the artists will exhibit work in a prime town centre location during the month-long art trail.
The public can view the pop-up exhibitions free of charge.
The Art Trail is intended to encourage more visitors to the town centre, promote the artists whose work will be on sale, and support the venues offering the exhibition space.
An array of mediums will be on display from textile to glass, oil on canvas to screen print.
Venue opening times will vary and selected artists will be offering workshops on site.
Councillor Jane Sartin, chairman of Hertford Town Council’s development and leisure committee, said: “The Hertford Arts Festival has become an established part of Hertford’s year, and the 2017 festival looks set to be the best yet.
“The launch evening will get it off to a great start, with an opportunity to meet many of the artists taking part in the Art Trail, ahead of their work being on display around the town over the following month.”
Tickets for the launch event are £5.
The price includes a complimentary glass of sparkling wine, with 50 per cent of the proceeds from the evening going to the mayor’s charities, the Hertford Branch of St John Ambulance and Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust.
Tickets can be purchased at the Hertford Town and Tourist Information Centre, by telephoning 01992 552885 or by purchasing tickets online by visiting www.hertfordartslaunch.eventbrite.co.uk
