IN the 80s, The Alarm enjoy a string of top 50 chart hits with singles such as 68 Guns, Rain in the Summertime and Spirit of ’76.

The alternative Welsh rockers from Rhyl toured alongside Irish contemporaries U2 and supported the likes of Bob Dylan.

Although derided by many in the British music press, the sloganeering four-piece enjoyed commercial success on the other side of the Atlantic, with single Sold Me Down the River a huge hit on the American rock charts.

The group’s original line-up split in the early 90s, with lead singer Mike Peters going solo.

And on Friday, February 3, The Alarm co-founder and guitarist Dave Sharp will be playing a solo set at The Horn pub, in St Albans.

With guitar in hand, his music has been described as everything from folk and blues to rock, country and punk and the likes of Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash have appeared on his recordings.

Tickets are £5, available only from www.thehorn.co.uk or over the bar.

Support comes from local band My Little Empire.
