1st pole for Lewis in Malaysia

The 27-year-old F1 racer from Hertfordshire lines up on pole position for today’s second round of the FIA World Championship in Malaysia.

Hamilton bagged pole in qualifying yesterday ahead of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes teammate Jenson Button, who will also start from the front row.

Bookies William Hill make Stevenage-born Hamilton 11/10 to win the race ahead of Button, at 2/1.

Red Bull’s reigning F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel is 7/1.

Hamilton did not have the best of starts last weekend in Australia, where he also started from pole, and Button overtook him before the first corner.

Hills go 11/4 that Button is leading at the end of lap one, although Hamilton is 4/11 to be leading entering the second lap of the race.

“Hamilton will be desperate to avoid a repeat of last weekend and we think he will maintain the lead and push on,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Michael Schumacher starts in third for Mercedes and despite not finishing in the top three since his return to the sport, Hills think this weekend represents his best chance of doing so, offering 7/4 that he earns a top three finish in Malaysia.

Red Bull duo Vettel and Mark Webber, once again, flattered to deceive and they are 7/1 and 12/1 respectively to win the race.

Schumacher is also 12/1 and Mercedes colleague Nico Rosberg 33/1.

Ferrari star Fernando Alonso and Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen are both 66/1.
