There were circuit races and mountain bike events for Welwyn Wheelers’ youth riders at the weekend.

Wheelers’ trio Joe Bennett, Jamie Dene and Archie Peet were all in the leading group going in to the closing stages of the U16 event at Milton Keynes on Saturday.

In the closing laps two riders broke away with Bennett finishing sixth, Jamie Dene eighth and Peet 11th.

Three Wheelers were in the U14 race, which included U16 girls.

With three laps remaining two riders escaped and took the top places, but Tom Sharples won the bunch sprint for third place with a fine uphill attack.

On Sunday Oli Stockwell and Joe Kiely rode the Mud, Sweat and Gears mountain bike event.

Stockwell won his race and Kiely was second in his event.

This weekend Wheelers will be at round one of the British Cycling youth circuit road series at Redbridge.
