A busy week of signings for benecosMavericks ended with the return of an old favourite.

Sophie Hankin spent five years with the Vitality Netball Superleague club before moving to Team Northumbria last year.

And she is delighted to be heading back to where it all began.

She said: “I’m looking forward to heading back home. It’s amazing to be back with old teammates and exciting to be playing with the new.”

Her director of netball, Kat Ratnapala, said: “It’s great to have Sophie come back home. She is a very underestimated player and we’re looking forward to working with her again.”

Her signature came at the same time as both Ellie Kelk and Steph Collard signed up for another year.

And it follows the capture of two-time VNSL champion Georgia Lees from Surrey Storm and the retention of Northern Ireland international Michelle Drayne last week.
