Strong winds did not stop the Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club running their end of year pursuit race at Stanborough Lakes on December 30.

Sudden gusts of 30-40mph winds hit competitors at regular intervals as they battled their way around the course.

And there were some spectacular sights of speeding boats being lost from view due to spray and the inevitable capsizes.

But at the end of two arduous 45-minute races, Alan Campbell emerged as the clear winner, with Commodore Nigel Davis in second place.

Annette Walter finished third, with Mike Caddy in fourth place.

Club members turned out in force to cheer on the competitors and all were rewarded at the end of the day with glasses of hot rum punch and mince pies!
