AN inspirational Potters Bar woman has been shortlisted to be a London Olympic Torchbearer next summer.

Justine Laymond, who with just minutes to live was given a double-lung transplant, has been nominated in the ‘Moment to Shine’ campaign.

The 38-year-old has not only battled back to health and competed in the World Transplant Games, but also spreads the gift of life message about organ donation around the world.

As the Potters Bar Edition reported earlier this year, the woman who grew up in Byng Drive, is also gearing up to be the first ever double-lung transplantee to compete in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race next year.

Nominated by around 50 people, the official Olympic entry was made by her father and Potters Bar resident Barry Laymond.

The testimonial to his daughter read: “She has survived 15 lung collapses, a three-week coma and was fortunate to have a double-lung transplant, after which she had to learn to walk again.

“She treats every day as a bonus.

“This would clearly be a memorable achievement and a further inspiration for all those who follow her achievements worldwide.”

Justine is in the running with 28,000 others to be one of 2,012 ‘Moment to Shine’ winners – who will be part of the 8,000 torchbearers.

Justine told the Potters Bar Edition: “Even if I don’t get any further I’m chuffed to get nominated.

“I feel very humble and it’s still raising awareness of organ donation.”
