A golfer from Brookmans Park Golf Club is just one step away from the round of a lifetime with a European Tour star.

Wendy Plummer has beaten thousands of amateur golfers across England to make the final stage of the Bridgestone Chase Your Dream Trophy.

The trophy gives golfers the chance to qualify for the British Masters, held this year at Walton Heath in October.

Last year’s winners, the first year the competition had been held, played with Ryder Cup hero Nicolas Colsaerts.

And Plummer, who is the ladies vice-captain at the Golf Club Road-based club, took the next step after being one of the nine finalists to qualify from a field of 60 at Frilford Heath Golf during England Golf Week.

She scored a net 75 on the Oxfordshire course to reach the Bridgestone Classic but still came away slightly disappointed despite securing her qualification.

She said: “I’m a perfectionist and I’ll still be worrying about the shots I missed on the way home. But I’m already excited for the next round. I’m counting the days down already.”

Qualifying for the Bridgestone Challenge has been 10 years in the making, the point when she started taking the game seriously.

“I genuinely never expected to make it into the top nine,” she said. “I just kept telling myself that if I played to my handicap, I’d do well.

“I bought my husband Phil to handicap for me. He must be my lucky charm because I keep performing brilliantly when he’s out on the course with me.”

Bridgestone’s consumer sales and marketing director Farrell Dolan said: “Wendy has done fantastically to qualify for the next round against a strong field of golfers from across the country.

“She’ll continue to chase her dream of playing at the British Masters supported by Sky Sports.

“Our Chase Your Dream Trophy has captured the imaginations of many, many golfers.

“We’re now only one step away from the British Masters and nine amateur golfers are continuing to live their dreams, including Wendy.”
